LDL and cholesterol

When we are concerned about “high cholesterol” we are actually worried about high plasma levels of low density lipoproteins or LDLs, defined as “bad” bad cholesterol. These are proteins specializing in the transport of cholesterol from the liver to the periphery.
Why do these proteins be considered dangerous if they are present in high levels? Because, if oxidized, they are recognized by macrophages that “embody” them in the walls of the blood vessels, narrowing the capillary lumen. If this narrowing affects the coronary arteries, up to the blockage of circulation in those vessels, the infarction occurs; if it affects the brain arteries, it has stroke.
